The "Bermuda Triangle of Talent" is a phenomenon where graduates from elite universities are drawn into lucrative careers in consulting, finance, and corporate law, as opposed to pursuing careers outside of these three sectors, such as research, government, or non-governmental organisations.

In the Netherlands, the prison system is currently under severe strain. Due to a structural shortage of cells and staff, about 3,000–4,100 convicted offenders who should be serving time are still free because there isn’t space for them in prisons, leaving a backlog of over 580 years of unserved sentences. The Custodial Institutions Agency has declared a “code black” situation and authorities are resorting to measures such as early release and temporary facilities to cope.
